Hi!!
Alright...starting this blog thing up again...it's been awhile...
For starters, I've been in Toronto since Sept. 12 now...that makes it 12 whole days!
It's been busy too. Mike and I have been galavanting all over the city, taking in as much as allowed with him being in school and all.
The first weekend we watched a broadway show called 'Jersey Boys'; the musical story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. Totally great, harmonies and all. During the week I went to class with him a couple times, met some other chiropractic students, and saw the lab where they keep all the cadavers, and watched Mike play with real human bones...hmmm.
Highlights from last week, would have to include my own private guided tour of the Much Music Environment. My friend Dan from Calgary works for MTV2, so he took me to the Much On Demand Studio, where we watched Matt Mays (one of my fav. east coast artists) being interviewed. I ran into Ben Mulroney, and saw the general set up of the offices. Very Cool.
I also ended up working the first week I was here!! Funny, really...here I am, trying to run away from all that, and I get prime shooting opportunities right off the bat!! MZTV (the company I was working for in Calgary for all the Telus TV shoots), was hosting this 'Bach and Rock Around the Clock' at their offices in celebration of the 1st year Anniversary of one of their radio stations (Classical 96.3) and the launch of a new one. It was pretty snazzy stuff...Moses himself was in attendance, dressed in his usual tuxedo. I also had a chance to meet most of my other co-workers, who I'd never been in contact with before. Editors and directors, etc... Shooting was fun too, as it was a 24hr classical music extravaganza, where all these concert pianists, violinists, celloists, opera singers, jazz bands, etc...came to play. It was great. So much classical in such a short time!
Last weekend we had the opportunity to borrow Mike's Aunt Carolyn and Uncle Allan's VW Gulf and take it to Niagara Falls. First, because Carolyn and Allan live in Burrlington, we took the Go Train out of Downtown to Burlington, just west of Toronto. This town is absolutely beautiful!! Tall trees, so green, and the houses are amazing.... The one Carolyn and Allan live in is over 100years old (I think).
On saturday Mike and I headed out to Niagara Falls, and the day didn't really go quite as planned...;)
First, someone fell into the water either ABOVE or BELOW the falls...either way, the Maid of the Mist was shut down while we were in line, and we were too annoyed by the line ups and 30+ weather to wait any longer for a refund. (and trust me, I realize how petty this sounds in light of the fact someone FELL IN)
We opted to leave and drive the Wine Tour towards Niagara On The Lake. We stopped at Inniskillin, an amazing winery, with the most AMAZING Ice Wine...so good!
Next was Niagara On The Lake, the most quaint little town...100yr old houses, bed and breakfasts, so calm, I loved it. If there had been room for us (but there wasn't due to an immense Wine and Cheese Festival), we would have stayed the nite.
We ended up getting a hotel room in Niagara Falls at the last minute, and found out when we went to go unlock the door, that it was already rented to another couple!! Double Booked. So instead, we got the very LAST room...the one with the fruit fly problem. Wonderful. According to the maintenance guy, they'd just sprayed last nite, so we should be fine....whatevs.
Onto Sunday, where Carolyn and Allan took Mike and I SAILING!! It was great....cutting through the water, leaning into the waves...the wind was great, and the sun came out after a rainy morning. Definitely something I'd like to do more of...
Anyway, this is a decently long post for "Post #1". I'd better get a move on...
Take Care,
Amanda
